Locations of Swamps
Swamps are found all over the world, in both tropical and temperate biomes.
This map shows the global distribution of wetlands. While not all of the areas are freshwater swamps (for example, the read areas are considered salt-affected), this map gives a good idea of where swamps can occur, which is nearly everywhere that is warm and wet enough to support a year-round area of standing water.
These three swamps are from very different places in the world, but still fit the same definition, showing the incredible diversity of swamps all over the world. On the left, the picture is of Patanal, the world's largest freshwater wetland, in Brazil. The middle picture is of the Ratargul Swamp Forest in Bangladesh. The picture to the right is the Okefenokee swamp in Georgia.
